The Gathering at French Creek is a festival that celebrates Union City, Pennsylvania's historic background of being a gathering place as the town is strategically located at a crossroads of both water and land routes.  Come join us in celebration of our area's rich heritage.

The first annual Gathering at French Creek will be held from June 16 - June 18, 2006 on the grounds of the Union City Area School District and is scheduled to host the following activities:

    Live Entertainment
 
 

 

The main stage will feature live entertainment during the entire weekend including music for all ages.  There will be plenty of seating available with great views of the stage.

Union City's own Amanda Post from WICU-12 will serve as MC on Saturday.

"Akeelah and the Bee" from Lions Gate Films will be shown at various times throughout the weekend

 

Three prerelease screenings of the animated movie "Arthur", based on the popular PBS children's' television show, will be shown on Saturday courtesy of Lions Gate Films.

 

Country 98 - WXTA-FM will be doing a live remote from 4:30 - 7:00 on 06/17.

 

A non-denominational church service featuring a circuit-riding preacher will be held at 10:00am on 6/18 on the main stage.

 

 
     
 
    Re-enactors and Living Historians
 
 

 

Recreation of history from the Civil War and French and Indian War era featuring period costumes, cannon and rifle firing demonstrations, Civil War band music, Navajo Indian dance demonstrations, and close order drill demonstrations.

    Outdoor Activities
 
 

 

Marsh Young will be putting on a fly casting demonstration on Saturday.

A "Kids Fishing Day" will be held on Saturday from 10am - 2pm with prizes for different age groups.

Jack Farster will present the History of Lumber in Pennsylvania

Sam Hossler, author of the historic fiction book "The Summer of 1763", will present a lecture on the area's history on both Saturday and Sunday.

 

 
     
 
    Craft Fair
 
 

 

During the craft fair you will find vendors that are not only selling their hand made goods but some will be demonstrating their workmanship during the three day event.  Loom weaving, quilting, broom making, and chainsaw carving are just a few examples of artisans who will be demonstrating their skills.  Crafts will include modern day jewelry, copper creations, painted feathers, puppet makers, portrait painters, one-stroke painters, wood carvers, and many more .  Everything is hand made so you will not be disappointed.  

 

 
     
 
    Food vendors
 
 

 

There will be food vendors selling everything to satisfy your craving during the weekend.  One highlight is a Chicken Barbeque on Saturday and Sunday.  You will be able to taste foods hot and cold, main dish to dessert, and from old fashion popcorn to current day pizza.  You will want to bring your appetite!

 
 
     
 
    Children's crafts and games
 
 

 

Activities will be taking place the entire weekend in the Kids’ Area.

Come take a journey through the festival in a scavenger hunt as you look for items to make a necklace or bracelet!

Other crafts that you may find enjoyable are making a bird feeder, an Indian head dress, face painting, butter churning, and weaving a pot holder.  You will also find games such as shelled corn search, marbles, and jacks.

Clifford the Big Red Dog will be on hand to pass out coloring books all weekend.

    1-Mile Fun Run/Walk
 
 

 

The Union City Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a fun run and walk that will be starting at 4:00pm Saturday.

The event will begin at the high school track and follow a portion of the Union City Cross Country course.  There will be a $5 entry fee and trophies and ribbons will be awarded.

This will be a great time for people of all ages and will take place rain or shine.

Local artist Blain Blakeslee has been commissioned to present a painting specifically for the Gathering.  Print number 1 will be raffled off at the festival.  Conservation prints will be offered for sale during the event.

 

An art show will featuring the works of the Union City High School drawing class will be held in the High School lobby area..  Drawings of Union City buildings from by-gone days will be displayed.  The public is invited to vote for their favorite drawing.  The new elementary permanent art display sponsored by the Union City Area School District Foundation will also be on display.

 

 
 
 
 
 
    Genealogical Research Assistance
 
 

 

The Erie Society for Genealogical Research will be on hand from 10:00am - 5:00pm on Saturday to assist with any genealogical questions that you may have. 

 
 
     
 
    Museum Tours
 
 

 

The Union City Historical Society will be conducting tours of the Union City Museum on Saturday.  The Museum features 3 floors of area history and is located on South Main Street in downtown Union City.  A free shuttle service will be provided.

    3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
 
 

 

The Union City Boys' Basketball Program will be sponsoring a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on June 17.

There will be seven different age divisions and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-ups in each division.
